Frequently asked questions
Honest, plain-language answers to the questions I hear most. Don't see yours? I'm glad to talk it through.
Do I really need an estate plan?
Almost everyone benefits from a basic estate plan. If you own property, have children, or simply want a say in who makes decisions for you, a plan ensures your wishes are followed and spares your family unnecessary stress, cost, and conflict. Without one, state law decides for you.
What is the difference between a will and a trust?
A will takes effect after you pass away and directs how your property is distributed, but it generally must go through probate. A trust can take effect during your lifetime, can help your family avoid probate, keeps your affairs private, and offers more control over how and when assets are distributed. Many plans use both, and I can help you decide what fits your situation.
How does the first meeting work?
The first conversation is about understanding your family, your goals, and your concerns, not paperwork. I listen, answer your questions in plain language, and explain your options so you can decide what makes sense for you. There is no pressure and no obligation.
How much does an estate plan cost?
Cost depends on the complexity of your situation and the documents you need. I believe in clear, up-front pricing, so you will know what to expect before any work begins, with no surprises.
I already have a will. Should I update it?
It is wise to review your plan after any major life change, such as marriage, divorce, a new child or grandchild, a move to another state, a significant change in assets, or simply the passage of several years. I can review your existing documents and recommend updates where they make sense.
